Belgian rules distinguish these three techniques among others. Simple treatments are limited to eligible situations; glove bags serve certain pipe work; a sealed area provides broader containment. Risk assessment and applicable conditions determine the choice, not area or price alone.

Can floor adhesive change the whole approach?
Yes. The federal FAQ updated on 30 June 2026 states that asbestos-containing bituminous adhesive and its associated tiles require a hermetically sealed area. Tiles without asbestos-containing adhesive may fall under a different framework if all conditions are met. Have the affected layers identified separately.

Encapsulation does not remove the asbestos
Encapsulation aims to limit fibre release while leaving the material in place. Brussels Environment describes this option in some situations but requires removal where work affects asbestos or cannot preserve it intact. Confirm suitability, permissions and monitoring of the remaining material.

Is a new technique automatically authorised?
No. The federal reform provides a route for new methods subject to thorough prior validation. A commercial innovation does not prove suitability for your site. Ask for the basis of the proposed method, its limitations and planned checks, with a written offer that makes scopes comparable.

What should you check beyond the technique’s name?
Prevention starts by avoiding or reducing fibre release; a mask does not replace collective protection. Ask how the offer addresses separation of areas, access control and completion. If materials remain, have their monitoring arrangements set out in the delivered records.
